Raul Cuero

Raul Cuero's creativity came from his childhood, when he promised himself he would be different and learn how to read and write, unlike his father. He got a basketball scholarship and moved to the United States where he began reading classics from many different genres. He understood that during that time there was a lot of racism and that many people believed from looking at Cuero that they would not think of him as an intellectual individual. Cuero used these beliefs to fuel his success and became very intellectual in school and obtained a PhD. He now is a microbiologist with nine scientific inventions to his name. He went above and beyond people's expectations of him to show them that he is of value and is a well educated man. He went above people's expectations by being creative in his ways.

I am able to apply some of Cuero's beliefs to my every day life as I go through school, as well as in the work place. Graduating school is great, however employers are looking for more than just a degree. They are looking for diversity and creativity. Employers want to know that you have the background knowledge of the material, however they also want to know what else you like to do for fun. What other aspects of YOU as a person will be beneficial to the workplace. This traits may be your personality or some of your hobbies. As I am going through school it is important to remember to be creative and be an individual. As well as exceeding in the classroom, I need to also be participating in on campus activities, sport groups, academic groups, etc. Anything that may interest me as well as set me apart from others. Cuero says that you need to change/raise peoples expectations of you, and that is a good rule to live by because that principle can take you very far in life.

Juan Carlos

After viewing Juan Carlos's work, I find it to be very interesting. I think that it is interesting that he would create something, such as the brass sculpture and then allow it to freeze. This frost is just taking away from the work that he put into the piece. I guess some may think that the frost adds to the piece however, I feel it takes away from the art. Having not taken a class yet, to compare these works to multimedia is difficult as I am not sure of the true meaning of multimedia. But I would say that the works are multimedia because the same way that multimedia can be viewed many different ways, such as computer, phone, iPad, etc. these works of art can be viewed in many different ways (adding to or taking away from that art.) Multimedia is a form of art that has multiple things happening simultaneously. So I think that Carlos's work is multimedia because it was many different levels of frost happening at different rates.

About Me

Hello, my name is Leah Russell. I just joined this class today, so about a week late. Hope I didn't miss out on too much! I am a junior at The University of Tampa, I am an Allied Health major however recently been thinking about changing to math because that's what I'm most passionate about. I have yet to attend a class meeting so I'm not really sure what to expect, but I'm sure it's going to be an interesting class :) So a little about me... I am from Sturbridge MA, and moved to Florida for the weather as most people do. I have two younger brothers who are twins, and we are really close. I miss them a lot. I adopted a retriever mix adult dog from the animal shelter two months ago, and I love her very much. She has quickly became my best friend. After school I plan to move somewhere out west since I've never lived out there and think that would be a neat experience. But I look forward to this class, and hopefully it will teach me something I did not already know about art and technology.
